Who Qualifies

In order to receive food at the Westwego Food Bank, you must present some or all of the following:

  • your drivers license or ID
  • proof of income or, if you do not have proof of income fill out this form
  • proof of residence, such as a rent lease or current utility invoice
  • proof of social security or retirement benefits
  • proof of SNAP, SSI, TANIF or other disability income

Eligibility of Households

A food bank must adhere to the following eligibility requirements for distributing donated food to households in need and must keep on file a completed Application/Declaratory Statement of Eligibility (Attachment 4). Alternate application forms may be used if they capture all information requested on Attachment 4. Any alternate application must be approved by the Food Distribution Division prior to use. This includes any electronic eligibility verification system.

1. An applicant must be a resident of the Greater New Orleans or Southeast Louisiana area.
2. An applicant must meet one of the following criteria:

a) Combined gross income of all persons in applicant’s household is within the following guidelines:

b) Applicant’s household is composed of food stamp recipients, SNAP.

c) Applicant receives supplemental security income, SSI

d) Applicant’s household receives aid to families with dependent children, TANF.

3. The Income Guidelines are to be used for all distributions between July 1,2015 and June 30, 2016.

We receive food from Second Harvest, USDA and other sources. Qualified recipients are eligible to receive a food package twice a month on a fixed schedule. Emergency food packages may be distributed immediately.

The Food Bank is open for food distribution Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00am – Noon.
